![]() At first glance Moreton’s illustration style seems to be a bit like John Porcellino with the minimalism factor turned up to 150%. Obtained for a mere $6 from the small press Uncivilized Books, this book is a kind of little wonder. Moreton, a British comics artist, may be best known for his zine, Smoo: ![]() There’s an intimacy to this approach, an honesty I love. What? He joined the Scouts? So what?! You mean no tragedy ensues? No abuse? But these are real life stories. The simple and undramatic tale reminds me of the work of Quebecois comics artist Michel Rabagliati. How few lines is required to tell a story? There are many wordless pages, where the images carry the brunt of the meaning. The title The Plans We Made is a reference to a line in a Beach Boys song, and the simple tale is a nostalgic look back at youthful summer.
